DIY Onsie Tutu

Make this easy do it for yourself tutu that is cheap and easy to make.  I will post how to make this tutu filled with pictures within the next week.  I have a brand new niece and i've been going crazy on making her all sorts of things.  Stay tuned!  If you have any questions, ask below or email me.

What you'll need:

• Thread (I did white even though the tulle was purple)
• 1 spool of 6-inch tulle (I got mine from Jo-Anns with a 50% coupon and spent $2.50)
• 1 onsie
• Scissors
• Ruler
• Pen or marker

Get your stuff ready and lets make a cute tutu!

Easy DIY Tulle Skirt for less than $20 to make!

Who wants to spend over $100 on a tulle skirt when it in reality costs me about $20 total to make. Granted I had to buy some supplies (sewing pins, seam ripper, thread, and sewing machine needles) but was so worth the investment. My amazing 2nd counselor's wife (in my bishopric) let me borrow her sewing machine. Thank you Julie! I had seen a bunch of DIY videos and wanted something super easy! This was my first skirt and it'll get easier and easier as I make more skirts (don't worry I am in every color)! It was a lot of trial and error because I wanted to create my own way of sewing this skirt. 

What you need:

~ 4-6 yards of tulle (6 yards if you want a fuller skirt). You can purchase tulle anywhere from $1.50-$3.00/yard.  

~ thread (color of skirt). $3 for thread. 

~ 1-2 yards of satin fabric that will go underneath the skirt. I bought mine for about $7 for a little over a yard. 

~ 2 inch elastic band which can be purchased for $3-5 dollars. 

You'll need a sewing machine (obviously), sewing pins, seam ripper, scissors, and a GREAT attitude! 

Here are the easy instructions:

1) Measure your waist and add about 3-4 of inches.  Grab your elastic waist band and sew it together.  

2) Get your waist size, double it and measure out your tulle by the doubled size number.  Sew all layers together in one line.  

3) Sew the side or sides of the tulle which will create a LARGE skirt.  Don't worry, you're almost done. 

4) Get your waist size that is double (if your waist is 32, double it makes it 64 inches) and measure out the satin fabric.  If you are unable to get the full inches in your satin fabric, just measure out as much as you can.  it will be fin, i promise.  Sew the right sides together. 

5) Turn the satin fabric inside out so the ride side is showing.  Now, measure the satin skirt to the tulle and if the tulle skirt is bigger than the satin fabric, when you sew them together, you will need to create smalls pleats.  

6) Now match this to the elastic band that you've already completed in step one.  The elastic waist band will be smaller than your tulle and satin fabric.  You will need to pin around very careful an evenly.  When you start sewing, you will want to pull the elastic so the by the time you are done, your skirt and will be full and it will be comfortable. 

There you are done!  I should have taken pictures a long the way, but I am lame!!!

DIY Easy Burp Cloths

Welcome back! Get ready to make the easiest burp cloths!

       

  

      Materials needed:

• 1/4 yard of any flannel or cotton fabric of your choice.  This will make 2 10x18 burp cloths. 
• 1/4 yard of terry cloth fabric or you can use flannel fabric if you want to.  It's really up to you.
• Thread to match
• Sewing Machine
• Measuring tape
• Scissors
• Pen or pencil 
• Sewing pins
• Good music or movie to get your excited :) 

Above, this is normally what it looks like before I start any project.  Definitely have water in case I get thirsty.  You can use a table or whatever works best for you.  I just like my floor. 

Step 1

Pre-wash all of your fabric so they will shrink.  I use hot water so I know they are shrinking to the smallest size it can.  When you pull the fabric out of the washer, don't be afraid that the sides may come apart a little.  You can always use a serger prior to putting them in the washer/dryer.

Don't mind my feet....I was a little tired!

Step 2

Start by getting your terry fabric cloth on a board, table, or something sturdy.  Measure out 10x18 inches. 

Step 3

You can use a pen or pencil  to make sure you have the measurements correct and accurate.  I like to use sewing pins because of the white fabric.  Normally I'll use a pen.  

Step 4

Cut the fabric once you have the correct measurements.  This is probably the hardest part of sewing...numbers and Lauren don't go well together. Below is the terry cloth fabric will feels like a towel but is still soft.  You can use an actual towel and cut it up if you wish.  Walmart has the inexpensive towels for $2.50 and that can make 3 or 4 burp cloths.  



                                                

Step 5

Cut the top fabric of the burp cloth that you want.  I loved this neon fabric and got really excited! It's bright and vibrant.  

                                             

Step 6

Get your fabric and turn it upside down like below.  I know this sounds weird, but trust me. 

                                          

Step 7

 Pin around all of the edges like below.  It will start to look like the picture below.

                                         

Step 8

Once it's all pinned, go to your sewing machine and start sewing.  You will want to sew the edges all around except leaving a 3 or more inch gap depending on your choice.  You'll see what I mean in the next couple of steps.  I used a straight stitch with nothing too excited.  See the terry cloth fabric?  It looks great.  I'm not sure why I sewed with the terry fabric being on top.  lol.   

Step 9

The 3 inch hole is important to us...you're wondering why?...keep scrolling...

Step 10

Put your hand or finder inside, grab an corner and pull out. It might be a little difficult but tug away...just keep going and going until the burp cloth is turned inside out. 

Step 11

 See how beautiful it is now? Depending on how it looks, sometimes I find myself ironing it if it look a wrinkled.

Step 12

You will want to see around the burp cloth one more time...you can use a creative stitch if your sewing machine has it. I decided to use a fun sewing stitch. See all the neon glow? It's fun! 

Step 13

Enjoy and bask in your beautiful burp cloths that are finished! The end result is I chose this stitch which is fun.

 ENJOY and sew more! All the finished products are ready for use!
